Default Indicator light mystery & bulb replacement

Hi, all...
1992 400 E (Canadian options)
The "bulb out" indicator light comes on from time to time.
However, even when lit, I can find no malfunctioning bulbs.
Does this indicator light have a secondary function I'm not aware of? (I don't have a manual yet).

There are however, two bulbs that ARE out.
One is the one that illuminates the climate control buttons -- assuming that these buttons are actually supposed to be lit -- are they?
The second light that I know is out is the map reading light in the front overhead light.

Would either of these two cause the indicator lamp to light up? If so, why not all the time?

Finally, can anyone point me to on-line instruction on how to get at these two burned-out bulbs to replace them.

Thanks,
Vorpal

I'd say keep looking. These cars have 5 or 6 bulbs just in one taillight assembly. It took me awhile to find the one that was burned out in mine.

I had a bulow bulb indicator that came on for the turn signal but it still lit however i took the bulb out and the filiment was damaged but still working so it was detecting the potential difference between the two sides so u may have to check all the bulbs.

Is the indicator intended to light only when the affected bulb is energised?

What does "bulow" mean - I can't find a definition for this.

"Is the indicator intended to light only when the affected bulb is energised?"

Yes. That's how it works. It measures the current being drawn (volt drop across a resistor) when the bulb is operating.

The connection between the bulb holders and the metal circuit strips on the rear light units is subject to intermittent poor connection especially as the vehicle ages.

I think "bulow" was intended to be "Bulb Blow"

Stuart.

"bulow" = a disco light from the 1970s characterized by intermittent rather than rythmic flashing; favored by LSD-takers of the period because it induced "lights, man."

Well, I'm not an expert on this subject as you may have guessed, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
