Default Ignition roto bracket failure

My 91 300E just died. I found the mounting bracket that holds the roto and connects to the cam in two pieces. Is this common? I only have 117.000 on the car. I carry a spare roto but never would have thought the mounting piece would be a problem. Where would the stress come from? Thanks

not common and very rare.

maybe quality defect?

did you adjust the belt lately and use pry bar? no external force was applied to the rotor housing?

No external force that I am aware of. Very strange failure in my book.

for safety reason, it is tandem plugged on the oil pump.

if the oil pump fails, the rotor stops working and the engine stalls to prevent major damage due to lack of lubrication.
