Default Help quick! Front break job

I'm replacing the front brakes and rotors on a 07' e320. The dealership (MB) tells me that I need some special tool to relieve the pressure in the caliper before i can push the piston back in order to put the new pads in. Is that true? I usually use a C clamp. Is there such a tool? I've been changing the brakes on a c230 and Dodge products that have the same set up and didn't need any special tool. Help. Gotta get done by friday. Are they trying to get me to take it to the dealer for the work. They quoted me 650 each end. I priced out the parts for 223 plus tax.

Sounds like dealer BS. OPen the brake fluid resevoir and use a c clamp. I can't see that it would hurt anything. It will either push the piston back or it won't.

Default Stay the course

I'm sure that the tool that they are talking about does the trick... but if you have been changing C Class brakes for years without incident... go for it. I highly doubt that MB has leapt so far forward with brake technology that the average person can no longer do the brakes themselves. If it does not work, go to an independant MB mechanic. Use ONLY MB brake parts and save several hundreds of dollars by avoiding the dealer. Those places almost always do excellent work but they charge the absolute highest amount possible. Good luck.
