Hi to all,
Kabayan sleep I need your help. Musta ka na?
I was reading some old threads and came across with this HB recall campaign number 2005020003. I don't know anything about engines. Kindly enlighten me what is a harmonic balancer and what does it do?
The vehicles that are included on this recall are from 1998 through 2001.
Models are: 163, 170, 202, 208, and 210 with the 112 engine.
What are the signs and symptoms of a bad harmonic balancer?
Also, the Airbag off indicator lamp stays lit all the time even if there is a passenger on board.
EC button on my climate control was always on, just started 3 days ago.
My car is a 2000 E320 VIN WDBJF65J1YB096856
Thank you.

Just go to a mercedes aircon shop and ask for a freon charge. Or there might be a leak somewhere.
Btw, I'm from Quezon City.

The harmonic balancer is the pulley that is on the crankshaft, the most lowest and centered pulley on the engine. its most likely the biggest pulley. It
is specially weighted, and used to dampen any "Harmonics" vibration coming from the crankshaft rotation. all you have to do is visually inspect the harmonic balancer. it has a rubber ring in its constuction sandwich between the metal of the pulley. look at that and see if it is cracking. small tiny cracks can be bad or if the pulley is rubbing againt the lower oil pan or the crankcase cover. it needs to be replaced. MB relesed the part numbers that need to be replaced, i cant remember at the top of my head. i will look it up and get back to you on that. but first id look visually to see if the rubber is damaged or if it is making contact with anything.

the part numbers that the recall states that needs to be replaced are
: 112 035 00 00
and 112 035 06 00
are the part number MB says needs to be replaced as part of the recall. so if you dont have a damage from the harmonic balancer and dont have these
part number there is no need to replace the harmonic balancer.

does the passenger side air bag light stay on even when there is a passenger in the passenger seat? do you also put stuff on the passenger side seat when you drive? if the light stays on when there is someone in the seat over 70lbs, there is a problem. there could be a weight sensing sensor problem, or all it needs is recalibration of the passenger side seat. the weight sensing system came on the w211 and not on the w210
but the w210 had the child recognition seat sensor. do you have a w210 or W211 E320?

well you most likely have a child recognition sensor problem, but without being able to read any fault codes. its pretty much just guessing at this point.
the fault codes would guide you in the proper direction to find the problem.

Hi guys,
This is bouncing around in some of the forums, but I think this is the right place for it since it affects several different models. MB is conducting an inspection and replacement campaign for harmonic balancers (HB) in a few hundred thousand cars. It's campaign number 2005020003.
The vehicles included are in the model ears with 1998 through 2001.
Models are:
163, 202, 208, and 210 with the 112 engine.
129, 163, 202, 208, 210, 215, 220 with the 113 engine.
Also included is the 2001 model year 170 with the 112 engine.
Don't go crazy, folks, it was a supplier problem and just because your car fits that model, engine and year does NOT mean you have a defective HB. You can check it yourself for peace of mind -- I did.
The HB is located immediately behind the large pulley at the bottom-front-middle of your engine. The part number is stamped on the outer arc of the HB, so if the crank is in the proper position it's VERY easy to see. You may have to start and stop your engine several times to get it to rotate to the correct position, obviously don't be looking around under there while the engine is running.
Once you locate the number see if it is one of the two below, if not, breathe a sigh of relief.
The only two part numbers affected are:
A112.035.00.00
and
A112.035.06.00
If you have that part number on your HB and MB knows that you own the car, they'll send you a letter or if you're in good with your dealer, call them to see if you can schedule an appointment. The repair is at no cost to you. If you point out that you've already inspected it and your HB bears the part numbers included in the recall, that will probably gain you a couple of brownie points.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
