engine cut off
I have 2000 E320 sedan . What I am narrating has happened twice but its worrisome.
My engine cuts off while driving. No warning light, gas gauge reads ok , engine temperature is about 100 F. Outside temperature (weather ) was 90 F. Lots of stop and go traffic. If I restart after waiting for approx 5 mins everything is ok. But before those approx 5 mins the alternator will try to restart the engine but the engine does not start. Checked coolant level its ok too, no leaks nothing.
S belt is fine. This happens usually at the stop lights or at idle . Note when the car is running on a highway the temp level goes down and everything is ok [ well it never happened at highway speeds but who knows in the future
] engine Temperature reading was never over 100 F. So colling system may not be the culprit. Any clues what is causing this ? I am stumped ...Would appreciate help !!!![/align]

per above crank sensor common issue get a good flashlight look down the back of the engine along the drivers side bell housing.use the hood release up gy the pass side window to open the hood all the way up.
