RE: E430 won't shift from drive to reverse
is this problem a one off or is the problem still present.
Most likely the gearbox selector module.
Could be adjustment but most likely "soft drink" into the works adjacent to the selector lever.
Get the vehicle ECU scanned and this will confirm diagnosis before spending money on new parts.

Won't go into Reverse??
You have to go thru R to go from P to D.
Do you mean you put the lever in R but the car doesn't move or what please?
If the lever wont move into R I assume you must have started the car in N
I;m confused.

The car was driving fine, I had actually just backed out of my parking spot at the grocery store. I drove home, less than a mile and when I went to back into my space the gear shifter wouldn't go into reverse. The car was already running and in drive. It will move up to neutral, but not reverse and therefore not park.

I took the car back to the dealer and they ended up replacing the ECM, electronic control module aka TCM or TCU. I've heard it called all 3 over the course of this weekend and I'm still not sure what the technical name is for it is. Basically they replaced the electronic shifter unit. Noone at the dealership had seen it get stuck from drive before. Since the car was under warranty it was no cost to me![/align]
