I have a 99 Meecedes E430 with frustrating ignition key issues. I have gotten a new key because I lost the original. . I actually removed the ignition switch (EIS) and sent it to a "Mercedes locksmith" to get a replacement key programmed to match the EIS. I installed the EIS and the key worked d perfectly for about a week. Then, it wouldn't turn again, even to the extent that it does not lock and unlock the steering wheel or doors . The key will not turn at all!!! I suspect at this point, that the problem is now mechanical, and that the tumbler assemble inside the ignition switch is the culprit.
in frustration, I have ordered a used EIS with matched key from a Mercedes parts specialist.. it is actually from a 2001 C320, but "GUARANTEED" to be a compatible exchange. I am hoping it would be a simple remove and replace operation. My concern is not b ING on these cars is simple!!
Would any of you know if this should work without further programibg????
