Is it true that you can damage your Cd-Changer by playing Burned Cd's in it??

 

UHHH, NO!
CD's are read with lights (lasers) and have no physical contact with any mechanism or heads that could cause damage to a system. If your CD player can read a burned CD, then have fun.

 

Thank you. I figured that was the case- my car was 2 weeks old and the CD-Changer had to be replaced and I was told by the service advisor that sometimes Bootlegged or Burned cd's can cause that, but I didnt belive it and figured if the player can read the cd there should not be any problems.

 

If the CD (home burned or original distribution) is severly scratched, the CD focus mechanism will seek until it finds a good part of the damaged track. While this happens, there is no music, but you will hear the CD drive motor and focus mechanism working. These are mechanical in nature and can wear out...but not in two weeks. There is no way you could have listened to a bad CD long enough to caused this units failure.

It is legal to copy an original distribution CD to save the original and use the copy. If the copy gets scratched you pitch that CD and copy a new one.
