Default E320 wagon stop light

My 99 E320 Wagon blew the left stop/brake light. I replaced the bulb and it was fine for about 2 days. Now it says "Faulty lamp" again, and the bulb is OK. It seems to have no power to the socket. The right stop light works fine. There appears to be no fuses for those lights. All the other lights are fine. I shutter to think about tracing the wiring for that side! Any help or hints would be appreciated.

Smile E320 wagon stop light

My bad!
The bulb that burned out was the parking light that caused the "faulty Lamp" warning. Since I didn't have a stop light on that side, I assumed that was the stop bulb. Replacing that bulb fixed that light, but the failure of that one was passed on to the stop light. I swapped the left stop socket with the right stop socket, and they both work just fine. It was a poor contact on the left side, which was corrected in the swap.

I have had other lights do the "poor contact" thing, and every time cleaning the contacts fixes it.

I have had 5 MBZ, starting with 1969 220D, then 1984 300TE diesel. 1986 300 SDL diesel; 1995 300TE Wagon; now 1999 E320 4Motion Wagon, the last car I will own. There was a 1984 Peugeot TD sedan in there, bought new in 1983, the best car I have ever owned. I still prefer the Mercedes. I can't help it!
