E320 Wagon door mirror replacement
I have a replacement driver's door mirror for my E320, but can't get it to stick on the powered mounting inside the door mirror shroud. Clearly the shroud (the plastic housing with the side indicator built in) needs to come off, but I can't figure out how this is possible - no obvious screws in sight. Anyone got any knowledge of this please?
Thanks
Tony.

Hi,
This is a matter of Good and Bad news! Its a very SIMPLE but very TRICKY job unless you do it regularly.
The mirror cover does NOT come off.
The mirror glass has a circular plastic moulding on the reverse which engages with the mating circle of the adjustment motor. The two parts are secured by means of a simple horizontal wire spring (like a wisker) at the top of the mirror glass plastic moulding after engaging the bottom first.
I find that motoring the mirror into a downwards neutral (neither to the left or right) direction helps give access to this spring which needs to be clipped into position by means of a screwdriver or similar.
The first time I did one of these I took the adjustment motor out so that I could see what I was doing but the motor is fitted with screws which need to be in place before the mirror glass is fitted since the instructions in the MB service guide are of little use!
You have to buy a w220 S Class to get a mirror where the cover comes off so you can see what you are doing. On the S Class a similar spring keeps the cover in place and is equally tricky to work out how it works with the mirror glass in place.
Let me know if this helps. Stuart
