Default E320 shuts off when put in D drive

Hello all,

I am driving a 2001 E320 and now in the cold weather, when it gets really cold and don't drive it for a couple of days it turns on fine, but as soon as I shift it into the "D" drive it shuts off. Does anyone have an idea what it may be? If you could let me know that would be great.

Thanks!

when was the last time when ur tranny got an oil change? is it jerk when shifts until the transmission is cold?
when it is really cold then ur old oil in the torque converter looks like the honey. when u put it in drive then ur torque converter locks up (it is normal) and the old fluid stops ur engine.
change the fluid for the proper one, only.

Hi Csapi,

Thanks for your reply to my post. I got an oil change by the end of last summer and did not get it at a Mercedes Dealership, so not sure what kind of oil the put into it. It doesn't jerk or anything, just shuts off immediately when I put it in the "D" drive. It's been warming up, but I haven't driven it again in a couple of weeks. I hope that when I drive it this coming week, it will be fine! Thanks so much again as I was concerned that it may be a bigger problem!
