Default E240 engine light on

E240 of 2004 has engine light on. The car drives for 4 mins and switch off. It idles perfectly but switch off after 4-6 minutes.

Try and get a code reader and check out what fault codes are coming up...any issues starting/cranking up?

The engine will start and iddle normaly or drives on until the temperature reaches 80 deg celcius, then it will cut off. it will only crank but not start until it has cooled off.

This is a thermal failure.

Here are four common failure items:

control unit, central electrical system "SAM"
MB# 0195455632

relay unit, K40
MB# 0005400072

control unit, engine control module, this has been superseded twelve times
MB# 1121533879
