Default Don't brake......too often!!!!

Hi

This is a heads up to you all.

Our -04 CDi E Class has to have an electronicbrake part replaced because....(now here comes the good part [:@]) we have braked 100,000 times and the car is now unable to count beyond that and now displays a brakefault on the LCD check warning display. Mercedes Warranty are paying for the work.

Has anyone out there heard anything like this????

My buddy in BMW service has new 5 series with same problem and says that in almost every case the workshop can reprogramme or reset the brake control computer.

It appears that BMW have designed their cars with the belief that they will exceed 100,000 brake applications!

None too impressed I can tell ya [X(]

Pretty soon if you fart the car will count it and turn on the CEL
First you need a computer to deactivate the brake system if you want to work on it, now they count brake reps! What's next? The above?

Really.

So which unit was replaced? Cost? MB dealer?

Since 04 is only 3 years old the level allegedly set by MB is ridiculously low. 100,000 applications in your case is 91 applications a day or if you do just one journey a day 45 applications each way. No this sounds "iffy" to me.Since design life is >10 years (in the UK they offer a rust warranty of 30 years...LOL that would mean that MB allow you to brake 4.5 times on your single outward and return journey!!
On my 6 mile daily route I reckon I must apply the brakes at least 100 times each way. Maybe I'll count today.

First I've heard of this?

Stuart
