Disabling speed control volume
Is anyone aware of a way to disable the speed controlled volume of a 2000 E430 radio? I find it very annoying. I don't understand why mercedes felt that a quiet luxury car like this needs the volume on the radio to blast when going 60mph.
It varies according to your radio. Have you checked the radio's manual. The feature is called "GAL". In my case, a Becker 7882, I can use the radio's menu system to turn it off/on or set the point (speed) when it will kick in. In some cases, you will need the dealer to use the STAR system to disable it.
It may also be possible to disconnect one of the wires on the radio connector to disable it. Although, I would only consider the 'brute force' method as a last resort. Good luck.
