Default crankshaft seal leak

I was told by a mechanic after a dye test in the oil that it was a main front seal. Is this the same as a crankshaft seal and if so, I was also told I need a special tool to change the seal out. Does anyone know If I can get a drawing of the main front seal area? And also can I find out what special tool I need to make this job a home job instead of a 600.00 job?
Any help would be appreciated...

This is on a 1996 E320 Sedan.

Default RE: crankshaft seal leak

the only special tool that you need is a special mercedes benz rear main seal installer it costs about $400 through the dealer. yes the rear main is the rear crank seal. unless your really good i would pay the guy the 600 bucks to do the job
