coil pack lifespan
Had my coil packs and plug wires replaced 34k mi ago. My E 320 stopped at a red light yesterday and I had to restart. It has a miss in the engine and I assume it is a coil pack. Anyone know the average lifespan of a coil pack. Also, I was low on gas at the time( no red light) and refueled. Still have the miss.
Any help would be appreciated.

Coil pack life should be virtually indefinite however they do sometimes fail.
Best approach is to read DTC (OBDII Diagnostic Codes) and determine which cylinder is missing. Any reasonable garage will do this for you and many will do it for free. 2 min job.
You may find that it is a bank at fault rather than a single cylinder.
Since coil packs are the same for each cylinder on M112 V6 I suggest you change the potentially faulty pack with a "good" one from another cylinder without a misfire.
If the fault moves then the coil pack, or lead, or plug dependent on what you moved is faulty.

He has the m104
check the wire harness they go bad.Did they change the spark plug connectors when they did the coils?replace the ones that always fail, under the coils.and spray some wd40 down there to drive any moisture away from the plugs.

your harness doesn't look like this does it?

Thanks guys. You're "spot on"about the insulators. Even though they, the plugs, wires, and coil packs were all replaced 34k mi. ago, my parts guy strongly recommended replacing the insulators on the bottom of the coils. I did replace one coil, the plugs and insulators.Just ran it around the block and everything is back to normal. I do have to figure out why it's running so lean. The Bosch plug gaps were over 40 and the electrodes werewhite/tan crusty. BTW, the harness was replaced by the dealer at 60k mi, which was about 175k mi ago. Thanks again.
Thanks for the correction ohlord.
Does that preclude plug lead and coil pack swap around?
So the vehicle has 225k miles on it. maybe its not suroprising a coil pack has gone down.
I misread and thought it had covered 34k.

Me too.
Usually coils last .On these engines unless the new updated coil to plug connectors are used therein most times is the problem. At something like 8 bucks ea. you might as well replace the 3 of them instead of swapping things around.
