Childproof Rear Door Locks
For those of you who are concerned about child safety, it may be of interest to you that Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in the USA do NOT have childproof rear door locks.

My inquiry of dealers in the area indicated that virtually all of the competing manufacturers do have childproof rear door locks.

I wish that I had known this before I acquired my 2003 Mercedes E320.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to see my letter to Mercedes-Benz USA and their response to me on this issue.

Hm...is itbecause Mercedes are equipped with automaic door lock and once the car go pass 9 mph or presslock button, all doors lock and the rear ones could only be opened by opening the driver's door, press unlock button or involved in a car accident.

Even after the doors are locked on a Mercedes, a child can pull up the button, pull the latch handle and open the door while the car is moving. Childproof rear door locks would prevent a child from being able to do this.
For six months I would not use my car when my son was with me. On those occasions I used my wife's car.

I have since disposed of the Mercedes and purchased a car that is much safer for children.

Hey, what's the little buttonby the shifter & window/mirror controlswith the picture of the kid for then? I assumed this was child lock. I don't have my manual with me, I'll check later and report back if you want.

I have a 99 e320.
