Center Heater Vents - No Air Flow
This week I noticed that there is no air flow coming out of the two center heater vents located on the front dash. The two side vents appear to work fine. The **** controlling the airflow is open to its highest setting, but no air is flowing out of these two vents when using the heater or the air conditioning.
Is there a separate fan motor or fan that needs replacement that supplies these two vents? What does this repair involve? My car is 10 years old; is this simply something that wears out over time?
Thanks!

Hi sleepwalker...actually, no air flow at all...warm or cold. Both side vents do emit both warm and cold air.
I remember a few weeks back hearing the fan, which had developed a bit of a whine that was audible, then it disappeared (maybe that was the fan's last gasp of life :-) or warning to me). Then a couple of days ago I noticed that nothing was coming out of the center vents.
Was curious if anyone knew what the fix was for this...I guess replacing the fan or fan motor? Is it under the dash or in the engine compartment?
I love my MBZ mechanics, but am curious what I am in for as far as time and expense...
Thanks!

I have the same problem with my 86 300. Center vents not move any air hot or cold. I went to my local MB service center and was told the following.
Center vent vacuum servo located behind the dash is the culprit.
About 6 hours labor to remove and install dash to get at this broken part.
If I had the dash removal proceedure I would do this job myself.
Does anyone have this proceedure that they can share with me?
Richard
