Default Catalytic Converter Advice for E320

Would anyone recommend against taking an '01 E320 to a non-Mercedes Benz service provider to have a catalytic converter replaced? I found a foreign car service provider that gave me a lower estimate than MB. It is a reputable business that will order the part from MB, they say. Would this be safe, or would you recommend going to MB even if the cost is significantly higher?

Thank you!

I would ensure that they are going to fit OE MB cats. Not sure that the fronts are available anyway with the exception of MB.
Maybe availabilty is different in USA.
If they are going to use MB cats then why is there a significant price difference? How many hours labour is each route planning on?
System very easy to change due to stainless / design although access to engine downpipe bolts can be tricky.

For Saleen1276. Are the federal "in service" emmission requirements as stringent as the new car criteria.
Here in the UK the new car figures are much more stringent than in service (cars require inspection once 3 years old EVERY year) and the secondary cats aren't needed to meet the "in service" standard subject to the rest of the system be in good order.

Catalytic converter broke at 85,000 miles (5 years) so it is not covered under the warranty.

MB dealers' labor charges are higher than other service centers so the cost would be significantly greater at MB. They are suggesting about $1000 labor.

As long as you are comfortable and willing to trust that indy shop why not. and yes it's safe as long as the indy shop know how to do mb cars.
