Default E220 cuts out

I have an e220 auto on a 1994 plate.

Been have problem lately seem to cut out when driving just dies for no reason.

first started with it not starting when you switched of if you waited for sometime it would start.

I have replaced the crankshaft sensor fuel sensor and removed the alarm system.
but still the same.

I have noticed when it does not start you dont hear the fuel pump in the rear of the car priming up.
but if you hear it then it starts no problem.
Also noticed just before it cuts out while driving the rev counter goes haywire.

dont know if its the fuel pump or maybe fuel filters or some kind of electrical fault.

Default RE: E220 cuts out

this fault could be the fuel relay or its contacts?. the fuel relay is located behind the battery there is a plastic cover that pulls off, there is two control units with large plugs on there tops, too the left side of these units there is a relay, this is fitted in to a plug remove and check that the contact pins of the relay are clean, after checking and refitting get some one to turn the key until the lights come on while you have your finger on the top of the relay you should feel the relay operate and hear a click. when starting the car this relay comes on to charge the petrol system to working pressure, then stops until the engine starts. I have also had problems with fuse contacts that give intermitant faults I find by rotating the fuse I can get new connection. All the best.
