Default Car is messed up

After the fluid flush in the car, about 200 miles later, the fluid filter got clogged again. This time, the mechanic said that because the new transmission fluid has higher detergent levels than the old one, it ate away the pressure seals on the inside of the tranny (@!*#). Rebuilding the tranny was not something I could afford at the time, so I bought a used tranny from Ebay for about 900 bucks (belonged to a 98 E320, with 95k miles on it) and fit it in the car. The seller also sent the old fluid with the tranny in a separate bottle, so I filled the same fluid in the tranny (didn't want to risk another debacle!) For the most part, the car is running fine, but sometimes, from startup or from a stop light, the car does not shift beyond the second gear. Even the CEL doesn't come on. I know it's not shifting cuz the RPM goes really high, but the car doesn't speed up. I spoke to the mechanic and he suggests that the electrical conductor plate that came with the used tranny might have muck on it and that I should try switching it with the new conductor plate that was fitted on my old tranny.

I'm beginning to get frustrated here and I am not sure what to do. It seems like I am spending more time repairing the car than actually driving it. Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong? I will be taking it to the mechanic's tomorrow to get the codes read.
