Brand name care..
In Europe there have been a lot of corrosion probems on MB:s (1998 - 2005). A lot of bad press have initiated Mercedes dealers to issue a "30 Year Warranty" under certain conditions. Good, right?

But there is a catch. The MB dealer decides the "cost of repair", and since the cost is decided by the supplier you will usually get a price far higher than the value of the car.
My MB E 220 CDI Wagon (2001) was evaluated yesterday, and the cost was estimated to 140.000 SEK (=24 000 USD). Hence there will not be any repair.
My thinking is this: The MB dealer will offer me some money and scrap the car.
Or, they will keep the car, reapir it in eastern Europe for a fraction and sell it wherever...
Good for them, and since it is so good for them, it is OK never to have me (the sucker) as a MB customer anymore!![:@]

Long time have passed, and the MB consultants from Germany have been in Sweden to verify if warranty is possible....
The 24 k USD to repair have been raised. As a good will gesture I have been offered 11 k USD if (and ONLY if) I buy another Mercedes...
But I do not intend to have another MB...I intend to keep my old one. And, repair of current corrosion damages will be done for a fraction of what MB quoted.

$24,000 !!!Correct me if im worng but thecar I doubt is even worth that much.

I absolutely agree, The "market value" (if any) would be around 14 - 16 kUSD.
The repair cost is determined by ..well guess. The MB joint forces of course!! I got a price for a fraction. (around 4k USD). My main point is that the dealer sets the cost fr repair and based on this, there is a repair or not. If I can get some body parts I will repair the car since it's running so well.
