Default Brakes Seize, 2001 E320

Yesterday my wife was driving down the road and the ABS light came on and car slowed down on its own, she drove about a block more and brakes seized and she could not move forward or backwards. Unfortunately she turned car off and when trying to restart all the instrucment panel lights came on and car would not restart. Had car towed, had to stick screwdriver in shifter area to release shifter handle, was then able to shift lever to neutral and was able to move vehicle then and only after doing that would it move.

Any suggestions?? looks like maybe 2 different problems here?? 1) maybe be battery got drained down too low from her trying to restart, and 2)second ABS sensor problem??

Someone who had a VW said they had this same problem and it was the Speen sensor that was bad?? any feed back would be appreciated.
thanks Campercraig

OK, the problem was: The Steering Angle Sensor shorted out and took out a Relay Block which shorted out the Transmission sensor which did not allow Vehicle to get any power to starter. $1006.00 later and 2 weeks in shops, did not go to Mercede's dealership at first, went a guy who works on GErman cars but he could not diagnose problem so had to have it towed to MErcedes then they found problem in a few hours. but did not have all parts in stock,
