Default 2001 S430 Brakes

My front brakes pads are getting thin. I'm used to doing my own brake work, but I notices some wires of sorts stretching across the caliper from one side to the other. Can anyone tell me what they are for and what I have to look out for in removing things? Is there some magic in this system that I really should be avoiding in doing my own work? Is it technical enough that a dealer ship has to do brakes?
Thanks,
Mark

I have experience with my old E, my guess is brake pad wear sensor wires or ABS wires. FWIW when I need new brakes I plan to do my own.

I figure they are part of the brake sensing unit. I guess I worry that if they are disturbed if something in the computer system will have to be reset.
