Default bad fan bearing?

I have a horrible whine from the AC fan. It makes ahorrible sould like a bearing is shot on the fan. How do I get in there and how can I stop the random rude noise? I should mention I have an 400 E class 1992.
Thanks.

Default RE: bad fan bearing?

Hey, this "sounds" like the problem I had a week ago. It's no longer a problem, however, as the fan has completely ceased functioning and I now drive shorter distances due to the heat. I have a '94 E320 which for the most part is in great shape. The noise reminded me of a tuberculosis-infected armadillo crawling off somewhere to die. You're probably right, a motor bearing turning into dust. I think what happened, possibly, in my case is the bearing froze up completely and a fuse blew out because of overcurrent. I could replace the fuse, but it still wouldn't solve my crunchy-bearing issue. I've superficially inspected the dashboard for a means to get in there without disrupting too many things, but I'm a little tweaked about actually taking it apart (I still have half a BMW 320i dash stashed in 5gal buckets in my garage) It would be nice if the motor could be reached through the vents or from behind the dash -- I'll give that a look today sometime. I'm sorry I can't be of any more help, I'll letcha know if and how I fix the darn thing when it happens.
