97 e420 fault codes - stalled , won't start
alright, car dies on the highway, towed home, sits 3 days, finally pull the codes (7 of them), cyl 2 + 4 misfire, cam pos sensor , coolant temp, idle air control, and both side 02 sensors. anyone think theres a common thread- please HELP ! engine seems to crank normally, just not firing.

Hi,
Problem is which of the codes are "live" and which are historical.
Sure you have a spark and fuel?
Since engine won't start try a new CPS Crank Position Sensor (not too expensive).
Not sure if your Cam PS is an alternative to Crank PS.
Crank PS doesn't usually generate a code when it goes bad just stops the car starting since the engine doesn't know when to fire.
Clear codes and see what returns...and what doesn't.
60% CPS will correct matters.
O2 sensors shouldn't impact starting.
Stuart.

stuart, thanks for the info - the only "new" code is for cyl 4 misfire. the others are considered "pending" by the code reader manufacturer (actron). also ,if i clear the codes , will new ones show even though i can't start the car?, it only cranks . one more thing, where's the cam pos sensor - i didn't recieve my repair manal yet - i ordered it the night i broke down - thanks , kmulholl - jerry

So since you cleared the codes nothing has come back. OK. No problem.
CanPS. Location?
Front of the cam cover (I would guess), Little black plastic thing with wires.
