Default 88 300E alternator?

Good afternoon,

I am just now learning my around this car. There is still much to learn, which brings me to my question.

My alternator recently seized the bearings or pulley that turns the belt. To say the least I need to replace the alternator. It is a 1988 300 E and I do not know if this takes a 70 amp or an 80 amp? Does it matter?

Any advice, previous knowledge, or experience that may help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Scott

There were 2 different amp alternators in that build year.If yours has the plug in harness it is a 70 amp,if it has the stud terminals it is 80 amp.www.autohausaz.com should carry either model at a fair price.
