Default 2000 E320 - Leaking Transmission Fluid

Hello All,

I hate car leaks. There was a new leak spot on the driveway. Day 2, another spot, transmission fluid. My E320 is leaking fluid from what I originlly thought was the front seal. I cleaned everything very thoroughly and rinsed. The next day no spot. The odd thing was that the front half of the transmission was clean and dry, yet the back half of the transmission tray was wet with fluid. I recleaned everything to a spotless condition all the way back to the driveshaft. I pulled the two plastic insert covers from the bottom of the bellhousing to see if there was an accumulation of fluid, there was none.

My plan is to drop the plastic [pan] cover to see what is going on with the full transmission housing. In the mean time is it possible to feed it some more transmission fluid. The dealer told me that replacing this fluid causes all sorts of problems. That really didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to me.

Thoughts, suggestions, and help please, since I have limited experience with this car.

Thanks in advance.

George
