Default Hydraulic Fluid Leaking from Convertible Top

Headliner has crinkled around edges with a fluid leaking. Turns out its hydraulic fluid leaking. The convertible top does not go back now. Heres what I am trying to do. I think that If I can refill the hydraulic fluid that I might be able to get the top to work for a while and I can take the headliner off and see where its leaking. Now I know the hydraulic fluid reservoir is in the trunk in a compartment on the passenger side. But I do not see how to refill it. Anyone else had this problem or any advice. Thanks

I can't help you with the top leaking but if you look in the owners manual, there's instructions for manually raising the top in case of such a problem.

Unfortunately the seals on the rams go .
A few have happened on Benzworld in the recent heat in the USA.
More info on the R170 forum over there.

The leak is due to the top locking hydraulic actuator. There is a rubber seal in that wears out. I replaced the seal with an O-ring for $0.25. The repair shop wanted $700.00. Yuo have to disaaasemble the hydraulic hoses at the pump. I would use the manual retraction method outlined in the users manual and not use the top until repaired as you are going to keep pumping fluid into the convertible top until it leaks out on you. I learned this the hard way. I had to remove the pump to add fluid. I removed the pump, loosened the hose clamp that holds the fluid resevoir to the pump, filled the resevoir (tough to get right the first time as the marks on the resevoir show the level when the resevoir is horizontal but you need to hold it vertically to fill it), then replaced the resevoir and tightened the hose clamp.

Do I have to put special hydraulic fluid in or can I just buy it from autozone or advanced? Also where did you guys get the o-ring to replace the seal?
