Default 1998 E320 Engine Sound Problem

Hello forum. Glad to be here. I recently acquired a 1998 E320, with 93K miles on her, very cheap but having a little issue with it.

Sometimes when it's idling it stalls and also when you first press on the gas peddle it bogs down a little before it will sound normal. I put up a video of how it sounds. Could you help me identify the problem from this info? Thank you all!

definatly missfiring. could be bad wires or bad spark plugs. the wires should be done first. alot of the time are the cause of misfires. but its really hard to give an answer without seeing the codes. sounds to me just like a basic tune up is what you need.

Thanks for the reply I'll check the wires and plugs tomorrow. I don't have a code checker device and no warnings are displaying on the dash. So I'll start with replacing those first. The car did sit in a garage for almost 6 years before I purchased it. I put about 3k miles on it before this issue came up.

might need some new gas...the wires are very $$$$at the dealership but you can find them other places. make sure the spark plug wires are securely attched to the spark plug...it should "click" into place. the check engine light will come on soon . is the car driveable? does it get up to highway speeds?

I have 1998 E320. Before you start changing wires etc. change the filters and get new gas. Mine has 156,000 miles on it and I never changed or messed with the spark plugs.

The car does drive fine yes. Once you get it up to speed it runs perfectly smooth. It's just when you first press on the gas that it bogs down. My first thought was the fuel filter, because it sat for so long. The gas tank was flushed out once after I bought it and new gas was put in.

You might try Sta-Bil, it might remove/dissolve some of the old fueldeposits in your system - in your case the fuel injectors. Apparently they are not able to deal with the minute quantities of fuel required at low engine speeds. Also the EGR might be hanging up. Disconnect it and see if it makes a difference. (Be sure and plug the vacuum line) And then also, at low engine speeds intake air vaccuum is high, a leak will screw up engine performance - but that should be corrected with the O2 sensors and any malfunction here would trigger the engine service light. But to get back to the Sta-Bil, I would try this first and keep driving the car. The issue might resolve itself over time. Go on a long trip at interstate highway speeds. :-)))
