Default 1994 E320 Steering Linkage Question

Hello there, got a quick question for the knowledgable people here. I recently replaced my steering linkage, and steering damper on my 1994 E320, yet after i put the new linkage on, I could still move it back and forth with my hand easily. The nuts are tightned as far as they would go and the damper is on correctly. Could the linkage be bad? or is it supposed to move like so? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Follow up the above and another question. What is the sign for a bad steering linkage on this car. Vibration over 50 mph? Hard to steer?...etc? Let me know with any information. Thanks
