Default Warranty Info needed

I am buying a 2002 CLK 320 Cab. It has 19,600 miles on it. The factory warranty lasts for a few more months. They are trying to sell me on an extended warranty for $3730 for 6 years 100,000.

The company is Mercury Insurance Group.

Mercury has several plans, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. I don't know which one the $3730 covers, but it better be the platinum.

Should I get the additional warranty from the dealer, or buy it separate, or not get one at all.

Please help ASAP, as I am filling out the papers this weekend.

It really all depends upon how mechanically inclined you are, and how good a set of tools you have (or have access to).

Things can get REAL Expensive REAL Quick when working on a Benz, specially if you have to take it in !

Also, most of your warranties are void if you don't take it to an "Authorized" Service Center for the regular servicing, So READ the small print on the warranty papers.

Hope this helps with your decision.

buy the warranty from the dealer....if you drive at all, go for the 100K miles...it will be cheaper than what you are being offered.

Found out that it is not certified-preowned. They said they went through all of the inspections, but not the paperwork.

They said they could get it certified and offer the warranty, and it would cost me $1900 for a 1 year 100K warranty, $2700 for a 2 year 100K, and $3750 for a 3 year 100K.

I am just thinking about going with one of the aftermarket warranties.

The salesperson wants to sell you the warrantee that will make the most profit for them. You want the warrantee that gives you the best coverage. Like you, I was offered the 3 year/100,000 mile StarMark warrantee from my dealer for substantially more than I paid. I ended up paying $3K for it. I’ve spoken to people who have paid as low as $2500 for the exact same warrantee. One approach may be for you to tell the salesperson that you’re interested in the 3 year 100,000 mile warranty from Mercedes, but only if the price is (somewhere between $2500 and $3K). Other than that, you are leaning toward making the warrantee purchase from an independent agency (the dealer gets no money on the warrantee sale in that case). Naturally, you would only want to discuss the warrantee price after the price of the car has been firmly established.
