what ever u do DO NOT take your car to oneday or other places like that. they will mess your car up bad!! I think a GOOD paint job of Mercedes quality will cost you around $2000 depending on how much work there is on the body

I have a 2000 and it needs paint too.
I just had it quoted at $4000. to look as good as new....except with better quality paint.

Also, I think the tale about paint lowering the car value of an 8 year old car is bologna; It would be different if the original paint was better.

Yes, I just saw a sample car that my new paint guy performed and it is great.
He is making a custom color for ME we call Miami Pearl Lavander; Its sort of a cross between Brilliant Silver and....Purple. It will look great parked between an Alabaster White and a Caribbean Blue.
I'll post pics. I don't expect anyone to like the color, and I do NOT care; its for me. I hope the Goths at the Dealer puke during the next oil change. Ick, the Company really needs a more festive color pallette. The Gothic colors make me think of a funeral. Seriously, how many colors can they mix with black anyway?

I have never repainted a car. See if it needs a really good waxing first unless you want to change the color. Just remember that when you wash your car or have it washed, use a car wash liquid with wax. Also have your car waxed every so often - that will keep the paint from becoming dull. I have a 99 White C280 and the paint is just remarkable. Mercedes is known for their high quality original paint on the cars. If I remember correctly, I think it's 10 coats of paint that they put on the car when they maufacture it.

My recommendation - wax wax wax.

I do my own paint work and had to repaint the front air dam due to wear and rock chips. I use PPG ultra black urethane base with about three coats of same product in clear and you can't tell I repainted it (mind you, this was LOTS of work). I have to do the hood and front fenders next. The color sanding and buffing makes me nervous, but it is saving me big time doing it myself.

WHY are you repainting? [sm=ttiwwp.gif]

Will a professional detail fix your issues? Painting is always the last resort unless something is damaged beyond repair.

Hi Sealkgirl,

I wonder if it was the older cars which had 10 coats? My old 190 2.6 had pretty thick paint, which allowed for buffing and polishing over the years.

However my 2000clk has less than .001 paint, which is equal to one very thin coat. The body shop said that all mfgs are using minimum paint now due to cutbacks and environmental restrictions.

I liked my 190 so much, it influenced the purchase of my clk.
My clk, well, not as impressive, but its just a car right?

I'd have to see. I think I read it recently somewhere that they were still doing that, but I remember going to the factory in Germany (then again, that was in 1992) and the paint jobs was something that really impressed me. I have to see the brochure again or the owner's manual for my new car. I'll get back to you but I was almost sure I read it somewhere not so long ago.
