Tranny oil change Instructions?
Hi everybody,
I want to change my automatic tranny oil.
I bought the repair CD but I can't seem to find certain vital info such as..
capacity
oil type
pictures of drain plug locations
Sort of difficult to do it without this info.
Does anyone have any simple instuctions?

Capacity is 8.4 q, total - but you'll never get that much out. Your year does not have a torque converter drain, so you will only probably get 4-6 quarts out. There is a drain plug located on the trans fluid pan (it has a crushable washer - so you'll want to replace it, but it doesn't have to be "MB" - available at almost any auto parts store. Plug and pan are just in front of the shift lever (from underneath). Filter is inside pan - 8 torx screws holding it on. If you can, let it drain overnight with the pan off (but make sure it is in a protected area, or tape a big bag around the drain bucket going up to the opening - you don't want any crap blowing up in there.
Filter is a $15 MB part. Fluid is stupid expensive at MB, but it is also ATF+4 Chrysler spec, available for $3-$5 per quart. Same fluid. Most people just measure what they got out and replace exact amount. MB sells a dipstick tool, but it's expensive and can be easily duplicated with speedo cable, or any number of other generic auto cables. Do a search on other forums for detailed inst./pics.

mbz300sdl,
Glad to finally check in. I've been SO busy.
Muskratbenz,
Thanks alot for the clues. The CD really left me hanging there.
I invited a friend to this site; I haven't seen his posts.
My Benz out-lived our Honda Odyssey; The Ody died.(frontwheel/transaxle/nightmare)
Thanks again

117K miles. This is actually very good considering the problems that have been reported on the Odyssey transmissions. Many are going out at 30-50k. We like it; we're just gonna fix it, and keep going.

Fluid is added at the measurement tube (looks like a dipstick insertion - except for the fact that it is missing a dipstick. Close to the firewall, left hand side (if you are at front of car). Has a red "security" tab to prevent us mere mortals from screwing around with it. Pops right off - new one costs about a $1.00. Get comfortable when you are adding fluid. Very slow - especially if its cold. A lot of posts refer to the extreme sensitivity of fluid level to the actual fluid temp while checking. I have seen some variance - but not nearly as dramatic as is mentioned here. MB shop foreman told that a a decent operating temp (10 min.)of driving, was fine. Worked for me.
Thanks alot.
I bought the MB tool, everything went great!
I used new MB tranny fluid.
The old oil still looked clean, so I feel my tranny is in good shape.
(No metal grindings like the Odyssey)
And my wife let me keep the Turkey-thermometer after checking the tranny oil temp with it, so that's two new tools for the tool box.
