Default PROBS WITH TEMP & CLOCK DISPLAY

Hi all. First time I've posted on this forum but was hoping you guy's may be able to help me out. My better half has an intermittent problem with her CLK and I was hoping you guy's may be able to help.

As the title of the post states there is an intermittent problem with mainly the temp gauge (although this has started occuring on the clock). Basically the temp display often has piece's of the figures missing therefore making the display unreadable. This mostly happens when the car is warm, not sure if there's any relationship there or not?

She spoke to Merc aid who said it is likely a new dash would be required (I assume they mean instrument cluster) at a cost of £500 + vat and we estimated the labour to be pretty much the same again.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? is the only way to rectify the problem? is there anything we should try ourselves first before spending out lots of money?

Thanks in advance

This problem arises due to heat.
Be happy with the fact that you are getting an image, mine has gone away completely.
It is an easy fix for any electrical engineer with the know how.
Roughly a 3 hour procedure.
Couldn't cost you more than $150 (USD) inclusive of removal and return installation.
