So the outside temperature display on my '00 CLK430 is now officially out (it started off with a few missing digital "squares"). The dealer says to replace the entire instrument panel at a cost of ~ $2k. No thanks, it's not that crucial that I know the outside temperature. However, I'm willing to invest a few bucks if there's a less expensive solution. Anyone ran into this?

i had something similar a while back. The cluster had all the LCD displays and the lights behind the gauges as one unit. Got mine done under warranty. They did it while I waited in like 15 minutes. Go somewhere else to have it done. If you have the right tool, the dash pulls right off easy. I think the cluster just plugs in. Let me know what happens.
