Question no response to accelerator depression

Any clues to this one...... car (2003 CLK 320 conv) not used for a few days then went out- stopped at lights and when pushing the accelerator down no response.
floored it and a slow slow movement (real sluggish) then the car ran fine until I came to a stop again....then the same again. Not good when crossing traffic- like trying to sprint through custard (allegedly ).

seems ok now after parking up, switching off engine and restarting after a few mins but would like to know if this is a know problem or sign of something on its way out.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for the info. Is this something that needs to be done at a garage or can it be tackled without specialist knowledge or tools? .....any idea how much the replacement would cost?

i think on your car the TPS is your accelerator pedal.
