Default Hesitation in acceleration... Mass air flow?

I am having problems with sub powered acceleration (7 out of 10) and the car takes a couple of seconds to shift. However, if I push the gas to the floor, it has no problem in shifting. I was told this could be an air flow sensor, but I am not sure. Does anybody have and suggestions? Thanks

I am having the same problem but it only happens about every 3 months. The Techs cannot reproduce the occuarance so they have no idea what the problem is. When this happens in freeway traffic it can be pretty scary!

I always had that problem, my last car was a BMW325 stick so I was used to an instant response. It took me a long time to get used to that delay before the car kicks in. Changing lanes in busy traffic has been scary ever since.

I was told it had something to do with the main computer in the car

I own 3 mercedes, and they all lag when you give them gas from a stop.

The only time mine hesitates from a stop is when the tires spin.

From a roll, it downshifts almost instantaneously. Again, there's a lag only if the tires spin.

try turning off the computer (it's called 'ESP' on my CLK) and see if that helps.......as Lugnut says he 'doesn't
want a computer driving his car'........

I had the same problem with my new 2001 CLK 430 Cab up until it was time to change the oxygen sensor (approx. 40K miles). After that change there was no hesitation. Made me think the original was defective.
