Hi all,

I am new to this forum. But I have a question. My wife's car is a 2005 CLK 320. What are the downsides of doing a brake job on my own car, pads and rotors turned? I am sure I can do it. Is there something else they do besides pads and rotors?

Also I was told the transmission coupler is leaking fluid. $239.00. Sounds right?

brake job is easy task, some times you don't even have to replace or cut the rotors, it depends on their surface sondition and your millage. New rotors is always the best but not the cheapest option. If you are in US, you can go to your local library, ask them to log you onto Aldata, pick your car from the list and print out step by step brake replacement instructions with detailed pictures.
Your transmission coupler most likely needs new O-ring (sealing ring), it's just adapter between electric harness and tranny sensor plate connection. I seen one oem replacement coupler lately on e-bay for $20

Freind did my front one with new rotors, pads and sensor on my CLK500.

Brakes are all straight foward if you ever done them on other vehicles. With our CLK the only thing my freind showed me and I would not figure it out there is a pin in the back of the calipers that you need to punch out can't remember if it was 2 or 1.

 

How about wear sensors, are after market replacements good enough? Also, and I know this is somewhat controversial but, what brake pads? Duralast Golds Ceramics?

 

What is Aldata? Is it some kind of software that only libraries have?

 

I did the front brakes on my CLK320 2001 and it took a total of 1 1/2 hour. This included changing the rotar, pads and sensors. The whole thing cost me less than $200.00 worth of parts (and a couple of tools). Local MBZ dealership (Smythes European in San Jose, CA) wanted $650. to do it!!!!!!
By the way if you order the parts online and they are out of state it will cost you less because you do not pay taxes and shipment over $50.00 is free.
