2003 430 clk soft top needs tightening

2003 430 clk soft top needs tightening
My top seems to need the cables replaced or tightened. When closing; the top drops hard. This problem occurred back in 2006 and the dealer recommended replacing the cables, which I did. Is this something I can do myself? I have the 2003 model.
