Default Check your timing chain

Dear A-lovers,
Remember to have your timing gear chain checked regularly. I thought that Mercedes had learned the lesson from the fifties and sixties, that a single row chain in a four cylinder engine is not a good combination - but obviously they have not, and still install such in a modern car. MB does not prescribe any mileage limitation for the chain, and some day the chain will break causing major damage to the engine. Mine broke at 160 000 km, and the repair would be some 5500 USD.

Cheers,
Roland K

Default RE: Check your timing chain

Please take note of this post.
Mine broke in 2004 at around 60,000 miles and cost £2500 to fix.

It had just been in for a service at a Mercedes Dealership. They claimed I should have heard a noise - they didnt at the service. As a goodwill gesture I got £1000 off. I didnt feel very good I can tell you.
