Default No Magazine (error message)

My CD suddenly quit working on my 2000 CL500. I have several CD's in the magaizine but the screen says "No Magazine" I removed all the CD's and it gave the the exact message. The CD's are installed the proper way.

Any suggestions on what I should try? I dont want to put too much to fix this since I may just start using my ipod.

Hello fcalero,

if Alfonso´s advice doesn´t work:

Can You check, if the six CD-slots are scanned by the CDC after inserting the magazine?
It is the same noise like if one single CD gets changed at normal operating, unless it happens six times.

If You just notice six short noises, the CDC scans indeed the magazine, but it doesn´t take the CDs out of the particular slot.

If so, there are two smd-micro-switches defective inside the drive.
Due to this, the mechanizm for taking out the CDs of the slots is blocked.

A good Car-Hifi-workshop could easily replace these two micro-switches or maybe You can fix it ?

The price for one switch is round about 2,50 $
Both switches are same.

Greetings
Peter

Thanks for the advise. I will try them. I went to the MB dealer and he wanted to sell me a remanufactured unit for about $300.00 He did say it is a common problem.

The actual message on the NAV screen is "MAGAZINE EMPTY" (I do actuall have CD's in the magaizine the right way)

Yes, he´s right... but it happens not that often...

Could You hear the CDC taking out and back the 6 CDs of the slots?
Or was it just the 6 steps (scanning) with longer pause in between the 6 steps?

Greetings
Peter

Peter, I tried to listen for the 6 CD's loading and I did hear it. So then when I tried to see if it would work....it started working! I did not actually do anything. It just started working. It's been working for a couple of days now.

I have no idea why it quit and no idea why its working again??

Thanks to all for your help.

Hello fcalero,

I´m very pleased to read that...

well, then the blockade released itself - that´s always possible, but I´m afraid it will repeat...
If not, You´re lucky

best regards
