Recently my wife had a blow out on the freeway like a trooper she didn't wait for AAA she put on the spare on her 2001 C240 and used the same lugs well there was some noise and scaping started from the rear right wheel where she changed the tire, i got a new tire and thought it was the brakes soI changed them, but itstill makes noise in drive not in rev , to it to the dealer and he saidthat it was a comon mistake when changing the tire , that the spare is off set so the short lug must be used , the end result is that the wheel hub ,bearings, and wheel spacers must be replaced at a cost of $1200 any idea for less than that i could do it iknew what i needed

 

pain in the *** job. not something you can do yourself without the proper tools for the bearings.

Before you going tearing out your wheel-bearing (from what I hear, it's not pretty - in the way of price), you may want to make sure that it's not your backing plate scrubbing against the rotor. If so, it's an easy fix. If it is the bearing, sometimes (not to say that it isn't) you'll get a roaring sound coming from the wheel. Try putting the car on a lift, letting the wheels hang free, and put it in gear. If it's the wheel-bearing, you'll hear it during acceleration. You'll also hear whether it is your Rear End Differential. Only reason I mention this, is because I just replaced mine. See the blog in the S-Class forum under "Replacing the Pumpkin"...
