WELCOME to the forums red.
I'm no trany guy but it sounds more like a valve body/control unit issue to me.
Maybe try a phone call to Peter Schmid Transmissions Burlingame Ca.

Your car has a 722.6 trans. that one is usually the conductor plate on the valve body. don't take that as THE diagnosis because it could be an issue with the trans computer that is a seperate deal outside the transmission(under front passenger kick panel). sometimes they connector on the transmission will leak and the pressure will force trans fluid all the way through the harness into the computer. if that is the case you will have to replace the computer and transmission guide pin bushing. also if it is the conductor plate then you can get a price for the mercedes one or the dodge part number. they used the in the 300's and the chargers but you will have to modify it(cut a tab to make it fit). can't remember who's is cheaper, dodge or mercedes.

WELCOME to the forums sleepy!

That conductor plate, better than the whole valve body like it was on the older cars.
It's also my understanding the fluid "whicks" its way up the wiring harness into the computer.
Now I'm a little more curious...

yes. the fliud will make its way through the harness all the way to the module. happens more often than you would think. a lot of cars aren't even effected by it. I usually find it after seeing that the connector on the trans is leaking and then checking that to be sure. the conductor plate is on the valve body but can be replaced seperatly as well as all the shift solenoids. conductor plate is usually damaged after the trans connector pin bushing has been replace without letting the transmission cool down enough or if the screw that holds it in was siezed(or overtightened). but I have seen them go on there own.

By the way it happened to me 7yrs ago with my '98 C230 and the dealer said i went past my complete tune-up by 8,000miles.It blew out my mass flow sensor. Also spark plugs were shot.So they did a complete tune-up and reset the system.Your issue has nothing to do with your transmission.Your electronic control unit stops working until tune-up is done.Cost me $1200 then for parts and labor.Good luck!
