greetings, all. new to forum, but not to benz. i have owned the following cars, and worked for a time as a mercedes tech doing restorations.

1959 model 219
1970 220d
1972 240d
1983 300d
1985 500 sec

and now own a 2002 C240 6cl. (also drive a 1995 range rover classic)

i noticed today while driving on the interstate at 60mph, a wierd noise, something like the sound of a card flipping against the spokes of a bycicle wheel.
it sounds like it was coming from under the car, in the area behind the tranny. it was not real loud, but noticeable with radio off, and did not change pitch or speed with the car.

having a set of bad knees, i would like some idea of where to start before i go crawling under.
anyone expierence this before? car has 74,000 miles.

Sounds like your rear exhaust may be loose and is vibrating on other metal parts

 

I had the same problem when I sent my car do the dealer here for alignment.
The idiots did not not hook up the heatshield properly and it was rubbing against the propellor shaft making that noise.
Go under the car and check.

Hi. I'm having that same problem with my 2003 C32. It starts when I get to 65mph. Did you have a chance to find out what causes that sound?
