guys,
my 99' c280's got a new noise. it sounds like a distant jack hammer knocking away when the engine hits about 750-1100 rpm. it only lasts a while, and it happens mostly during that rpm while braking. any idea what's wrong with it? i took it to the dealership and they changed a belt tensioner. but the noise is still there. i just called them and yelled. so they will do a check for me for free. but before i go, anyone got any idea what this might be? thanks.

 

it depends where the source is.

just keep on yelling to them so they can do good job.

 

Could be a host of things, even brakes. Hard to say without hearing the noise and diagnostics. On the bright side it could be something that is just loose. One tip, I find you get more with honey then with vinegar!

 

just got back from the dealer. a mechanic drove it around to listen for the noise. turned out it's the inner lining of the exhaust tips was falling off and it's resonating through the engine bay. well, the tips and the piping from the cat and back were custom made by some shop when the previous owner run the car. so i need a new exhaust. any suggestions? the one i have now is loud(it was basically piping and exhaust tips). i need something relatively quieter with good performance. let me know if anyone got any suggestions. thanks.

Or if you want to save a few bucks, get a used exhaust system.
