I am a new C300 4matic owner and I live in Toronto. We have heavy snow here sometimes and in it was the case in the past two winters. I am wondering with a 4matic in a Toronto, Canada environment, do you suggest i put on snow tires ? or one that comes with are ok in winter driving ? Thanks for any comments.

A true snow tire would diffently have better traction. Can you run studs up there? If so get other rims so all you have to do is change them. Use the prettist ones for the summer

 

you could go with bridgestone blizzacks or michelin alpins both great snow tires.

 

I've owned MB cars for over 30 years; all of them in Toronto. On occasion, I would delay using snows in the first year when the tires were new but inevitably I would have to get snows. While 4matic can help with traction it can't help with stopping and steering. All the electronic nannies do is delay, but can't change, the laws of physics. Snow tires make a major difference and you don't have to change your "three season" / summer tires as early by sharing the mileage with a second set of tires. While you can get rims at significant cost just the rubber alone will do. It costs 75 to 100 dollars twice a year to do off-rim changeovers.
BTW, in answer to IWBREWER, studs are illegal in this province due to road damage.
Blizzacks come highly rated by Consumer Reports.

 

I live in Nova Scotia and commute 330KM every week to and from work, each way, I have two Benz's a C230 Kompressor and a B200, I have Pirelli winter carving snow tires on both and they are fantastic, handle wonderfully and are good and quiet, they wear very well too.

I recommend them highly.

Thanks for all the advise. I checked with MB and they have a set of 4 with OEM MB allloy wheels and Continental winter tires availalbe at $2700, installed. It is kinda of pricey I will try to see if i can "delay" this process in the first year since the rubbers are pretty new and if needed, I can always buy in the midst of winter (if they have them available).
