Snapped auto rear sunshade! Fixes?
My kid was playing with the rear sunshade on my 2001 C240 while it was in a fully open position and managed to snap one of the bars (one side of the 2 vertical struts that support the whole thing when fully open and swings inward to retract the shade. The bar snapped at the bottom end where it looks like it connects to the swing joint mechanism (I cant see in there). There looks to be a plastic insert in the end of the bar that snapped.
Any ideas how to dismantle and fix this myself?
Thanks!

I called the dealer and they informed me the whole assembly including motor, bars, etc. are all one part number so they will have to replace the whole thing. He estimated upwards of $1k!

had the same problem. I know it's too expensive to fix. I tried to fix by myself. Thanks to this forum I've step by step procedure. Have to tell you - it's a lot of work. I removed rear seats - and .. I gave up at this point.
What I did - I hit that sunshade and rear shelf using the hammer. No kidding. No, it didn't work. However, I expected to see it working. Anyway, after 3 days sunshade started working again.
My point is - if you already gave up and ready to go to dealership - give a shot. Shake that car really well. Sometimes this method works.

I've always found the rear autoshade cool to look at but essentially useless, much like the awkward cup holder that "flops" out toward the passenger seat. My advice: tint your rear window. Better rearview visibility and will never break.
