i'm confused as to what engine it was

there was no 1998 but 112 from 1999 and 104 up to 1987.

i gues it's 112 engine...the new one.

the cylinder head cover was designed to take care of the PCV and so is the timing (front) cover.

Please elaborate on the head cover on the how the they take car the PCV and the time front cover? is there or is there not a PVC valve as seen on most other cars, as does it have to be repalced??

Thanks

there is a separate partition on the top of the cylinder head cover bolted with torx (as you can see).
the oil simply frops back down to the valves while the hose attached to it's side goes to the air intake (throttle valve) for burning.

It looks essentially the same as a PCV setup. There's a oneway valve there somewhere to prevent the gases from going back into the crankcase, isn't there? If not a valve, then something that serves the same purpose?

What Mercedes engine is this from the V6 I assume. the picture of the intake part 129 is a damper, what is its function? Also, by the JPG it would seem there is no replacement of the PVC as in American and some foreign cars, Correct. Also, parts numbered 164 are the one way valves? Finally part 83 is a clip of some sort? on the TB?

Someone told me is you removed part 229 the damper, air flow would increase, as its function is to "slow down or damper the air flow" But it is in back of the MSA so would removing it add any extra performance? or hinder performance. On my V6 the only attachment is to the back of the intake tube and the the damper sits on top of the engine on some clips. Off course you would have to find a large rubber cover to slip over the tip on the intake tube.

What are you talking about?

I don't see a part 129 or 229. Can't follow what you're saying.

Part 164 looks like just fittings and adapters. They connect rubber hose to metal or to each other. Replacing one simplistic PCV valve with three other simplistic valves wouldn't be too smart.

Why do you mention part 83?

I think his wife has him so upset that he's "typing" with his knuckles instead of his finger tips. You know, like punching the keyboard?

That damper looks like a separate intake point, but it doesn't have a hole in it, does it? The air comes in from the MAS and just goes in there and swirls around, right? It must be for reducing noise?

It probably creates some turbulence. Removing the baffle and having a smooth tube, not just covering the hole to the baffle, would reduce turbulence and add performance, but probably not enough to bother with it. If you could reduce the length of the accordion part of the main tube, or eliminate it altogether, and not have the hole going to the baffle at all, that would be best. You'll get that Hoover sound effect when you stand on the gas pedal, though.

the only issue i have with that damper was that. other model with the same engine doesn't have it.

and on the other model which got the same engine, they got two separate air filters with one intake port each.

most probably its because of the size of the intake was bigger.
