Default Replacing factory speakers in 97 C230

Hi,

One of my rear door-pannel speakers blew out yesterday, and I was wondering if anyone here has successfully replaced their factory speakers with after market ones. I have the non-bose system. I know this topic has come up in the past, but I couldn't find specific recomendations.

Thanks,
Evan

You should be able to get a replacement speaker and even an upgrade, since you have the non BOSE system. With the Bose system it is a bit harder, as they are priority systems. Not as bad as the older BOSE systems however, which had amp built into the speakers. I had an Audi for a few years, and the speakers went, they were BOSE. I had them replaced twice under warranty. After the warranty was over, no can do at an audio shop. The best would have been to replace all the speakers, add an central amp and new speakers wired to the amp. The best price I got back in the early 90s was $1500 for a quality system.

I have the BOSE in my C280 and I am very happy with it. Nice bass and treble response. I bought a BOSE radio CD player for myself. It sounds better then my $2500 home theather set up, which has Boston Acoustic speakers, another top of the line speaker. My daughter replaced the cheapo speakers in her Neon with Boston Acoustic's and a new radio CD player combo and what a difference, between the new system and the old neon system. This is the second Neon she has put in in also, she had the system taken out of the first Neon and the oem put back in when she bought a new Neon 2 years ago and had the BA and the radio installed in her new Neon. Why a Neon, she likes them?

Alan, yeah, I realize the only speakers powered by an amp in my non-bose system are the 3 behind the head rests in the back.

My big problem is, fitting after market speakers in doors, which requires brackets of some kind.
